North Scottsdale Dentist Helps you Conquer Your Fear of Dentists
People from all walks of life experience fears: heights, water, dogs, the dark, spiders, germs … and dentists. Regardless of how or why we develop these fears, today’s amazing technological advances and extensive studies of the psychology of fear are providing solutions to make our fears less paralyzing, and maybe even overcome them. Are you afraid of going to the dentist?
Sedation Dentistry in Scottsdale, AZ
Almost every day at Dr. Rick Dentistry, we help patients who fear going to the dentist keep their mouths healthy with sedation dentistry. Children and adults can be made more comfortable and relaxed while receiving the dental services they need. We offer three types of sedation:
- Nitrous oxide. Often called laughing gas, nitrous oxide makes you feel relaxed, sometimes sleepy, but you’re awake, aware of your surroundings and able to speak and respond to questions. You simply inhale the odorless gas through a mask placed over your nose. When we’re finished, the mask is removed and within minutes the effects of the gas are gone. You should be totally safe to drive and return to work or school.
- Oral sedation. When you need more extensive services or more help relaxing, we can offer you a pill taken the evening or morning before treatment. You’ll be aware and able to respond, but you’ll need someone to drive you to our office and home.
- IV sedation. For some patients and procedures, we may recommend a safe intravenous sedation drug. Our anesthesiologist will constantly monitor your IV to ensure you feel no pain, and when we’re done, you’ll have little or no memory of the procedure. You’ll need a driver to take you home, and the effects will take a few hours to subside.
