What to Expect: Your First Month Using Invisalign®

Congratulations on deciding to straighten your smile with Invisalign®! The world's most advanced, virtually invisible aligners will deliver your ideal smile without anyone ever having to know.

Why Choose Invisalign®?

Invisalign® will straighten your teeth and deliver your perfect smile without impacting your life. Unlike traditional metal braces, your clear aligners are removable, allowing you to clean your teeth with ease and to enjoy your favorite foods without restriction.

Invisalign® comes to you with 20 years of clinical research and more than 700 patents. The clear aligners feature the proprietary SmartForce® features and multilayer SmartTrack® material, which will have you on your way to the smile you desire up to 50 percent faster than with traditional braces.

First Things First: Preparing Your Clear Aligners

Your smile transformation will begin with an evaluation of your smile aesthetics and your desired treatment outcomes. We will capture 3D images of your mouth to map out your custom treatment plan, including the precise movements of your teeth and the expected length of treatment. You'll even get to preview your new, improved smile!

The next step is creating your clear aligners based on the 3D scans. When they are ready, you'll come back to our office for your "delivery" appointment, during which we will test out your first set of aligners. We'll send you off with your first several aligners, as well as care instructions.

On Your Way to Your Perfect Smile: Let the Magic Begin

You must wear your Invisalign® aligners at least 22 hours a day, taking them out only to eat, brush and floss. Initially, it will take some time for you to adjust to having the trays in your mouth, and you may notice a small lisp. That is completely normal. Speaking with your aligners in your mouth will just take a little practice. You may find that inserting and removing the aligners is challenging at first. Rest assured, you'll be doing it without thinking before you know it.

You'll be moving on to a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks. When switching from one set of aligners to the next, you may experience some soreness, which should soon resolve. With consistent wear, your teeth will begin gradually shifting into alignment. You'll be visiting us periodically to allow us to evaluate your treatment progress. We may make adjustments to your treatment plan as necessary.

Keeping Your Aligners Clean

Make sure you take out your aligners when eating or drinking anything other than water. Brush and floss after any meal or snack, before putting the aligners back in your mouth. Otherwise, bacteria, plaque, and food debris can become trapped between the trays and your teeth and gums and cause damage. Make sure to keep your aligners clean by following the care instructions we provide you.
